Comment: Through the years, my family and I have hosted several events at the Meadows country club: from family reunions to birthday parties. The event coordinator Joel Pozo is extremely helpful and professional, and went above and beyond to make sure that our wishes were met. When we required a dish that wasnt included on the menu, he made sure to make it available. The staff was friendly and professional and contributed to our events success.

The Meadows has three golf courses including two that are open to the public: The Groves, an 18-hole, par 65 course, and The Highlands, an 18-hole, par 72 golf course. The 3rd course is The Meadows Golf Course which is completely private.The Meadows Golf Course is the club’s 18-hole, Members-only course. Since being redesigned in 2004 by Garl, The Meadows has become known as one of the finest layouts in the area with its quick and undulating TifEagle greens. Golfers have six sets of tees to choose from; they range in length from 4,586 to over 6,700. With such a wide variety of tees to choose from, The Meadows Golf Club can be enjoyed by golfers of all abilities.The opening hole on the Meadows Country Club golf course is a long par 4, playing 397 from the White Tees. It’s handicapped #2, making it the toughest hole on this side. It’s a dogleg left and if you want to get off to a good start, you’ll want nothing to do with the large oak trees on either side in the landing area. A good drive is going to leave a long approach shot into a large green that is protected with a pot bunker guarding the front middle portion of the green and two more on the right. Number 1 is one of the most challenging opening holes in the area.Although Number 12 is the shortest par 4 on the course at 298 yards from the White Tees, it is by no means the easiest. That’s because the water that runs up the left side of the fairway off the tee cuts in front of the green. Play something short of the water down the right side of the fairway and leave yourself a manageable distance into an odd-shaped and well-undulated green protected in the front by two bunkers and water.The 18th finishing hole might just offer one of the best finishes in the area. A par 4, demanding precision off the tee with water features on both sides of the fairway gives way to a demanding second shot to a green that slopes front to back with water lurking on the left side. Par this hole and most say you won your match!During my visit to The Meadows, I met Gerry Dunnigan, who at the age of 97, is still an avid golfer. Gerry lives in The Meadows and has been a member for 23 years. He’s seen a lot over the years but seems to think that the course is in the best shape it’s been in a long time, and he looks forward to many more years of playing the game he loves.It has been said that “Membership has its privileges,” and this holds true at The Meadows. Membership here includes access to all three golf courses: the private Members-only Meadows Course, the publicly accessible Highlands Course, and the executive-length Groves Course. That’s 54 holes of golf as well as 17 Har-Tru tennis courts, pickleball courts, a junior Olympic swimming pool, a fitness center, 2 restaurants, and 6 unique event spaces. With over 200 social events each year, educational programs, and recreational activities, The Meadows truly offers something for everyone. They also have a “Kids Play Free” program that helps families with aspiring young golfers and encourages practice and skill acquisition. I just played the Groves and wanted to give some feedback.This is a short but challenging course. Narrow and hilly but quite pretty! It was fun for me because I could get to the hole so much quicker because it’s a shorter course. I still got natural hazards so it would be good for someone who is more experienced but wanted to have a fun little short course!

Comment: We held a Quinceañera on Saturday August 20th at The Meadows Country Club, Joel made us feel like family since we walked in for the first time to take a tour of the venue. Organizing an event can be very stressful, but Joel always made me feel at ease. I am beyond impressed with the spacious room and how beautiful this venue is. The table with the platter of fruits and cheese was a work of art. The head table along with the guests tables, and the buffet table were set up amazingly elegant. The food was delightful and the staff were magnificent. My family and I are beyond grateful for all the staff, Joel, Rene, the bartender lady and the rest of the staff, I apologize for not knowing their names, but they were very attentive and their smiles illuminated the room. Joel and the team made my daughter Quinceañera very memorable. The Meadow Country Club without a doubt was a blessing for our event. We definitely would be holding more events here.

The multi level club house have the opportunity to have different games and different atmospheres in different locations so you could go from relaxing with a cigar and drink on the deck to the auction floor or games. The Regency room is a very affordable, beautiful space to hold an event, with huge windows looking out at the beautiful golf course.The Meadows provided all tables, chairs, and linens. They set up and cleaned up. For food, we had a combo of the Meadows Deli Buffet and the Soup and Salad Buffet. The food was delicious! I would definitely hold another event here !! Loved it !!

I always see one girl working on the course and i just cant believe how hard she works just so we can have a nice course to play on. I play golf and tennis and most people at the Meadows and from other clubs love the tennis courts since they are so unique. If you havent been able to get games in your 19 years at the Meadows, you certainly are an anomaly. Most people know me since I have run many tennis groups, captained many USTA and Senior teams and welcome new members as do many other tennis members. Please contact the tennis pros - they all know me, and well try and get you involved. I also play golf as does Vic (he plays tennis, also). If you are having trouble getting golf games, Vic and I should be able to help with that and get you more involved. I agree with Vic that the wine pairings the club has been having are astounding for the price and the staff do a wonderful job of making the evening special. My wife has been running a Party Animal group at the Meadows for over 10 years in order to get new members acquainted and enjoying the Meadows as much as we do. Contact anyone in the front office and they can get you setup on the Party Animal list so you can meet other members. We got rained out last Sunday at the golf outing but had a great time with a fine DJ and food in the Regency Room. Best of all were the 40 somethings twisting on the dance floor along with the 70 somethings. The generations melded well. The Meadows Course was in excellent shape. Again, you can contact anyone at the Meadows staff and we can meet and get you more involved. I know the community is showing its age but when my wifes mother died shortly after we moved to Sarasota, she got more phone calls, emails and cards from people in the Meadows than from the place where we lived for 30 years. The community is special and I am sorry you have not experienced it. I hope that improves for you.

Comment: The prior writer must have had a problem. this is the best bargain in Sarsota to belong to a private country club. I am sure he never went to a wine and dine or the seafood buffet. If you are interested in a non pretentious country club you should explore the Meadows. He compares to Bobby Jones which is a joke. Obviously not a golfer. Probably to cheap to go to dinner in nice dining room.

Comment: I played the Highlands on Wednesday. What a nice golf course and in beautiful condition. The fairways are lush. The greens are in great shape. The cut of the rough provides graceful contours. The GPS equipped carts are a definite plus. If you have never played the Highlands, it is worth a try.
